It Is Interesting GAME HBO Mayweather vs Pacquiao Live Boxing trainer Freddie Roach has added to claims that Floyd Mayweather Jr. recently suffered a pounding in training ahead of his May 2 clash with Manny Pacquiao. Roach, who is preparing Pacquiao for the Las Vegas event, spoke shortly after rumours circulated that former undisputed welterweight champion Zab Judah knocked Mayweather down "for at least 10 seconds," originally reported by Ghanaian website Allsports.com.gh via David Anderson of the Mirror.
While Roach isn't going to get hung up on what others report, he indicates a close contact recently confirmed Floyd has struggled to deal with the intensity of sparring sessions, but not necessarily against Judah. Roach's comments were posted by Carlos Boogs of Boxing Scene: Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, also rubbished the reports, per Sky Sports: "False. No. Zab is in camp. Zab is a tremendous fighter—he's been helping with the preparations along with several other sparring partners. They are really pushing Floyd, but nothing like that. It never happened." Mayweather's record currently stands at 47-0, and he is yet to suffer a knockdown during his legendary career. While Pacquiao has lost some of his destructive power in recent years, there's no doubt he's still among the most likely to move Mayweather's legs from beneath him.

Pretty Boy may be quietly pleased their original plans to fight in 2010 didn't go ahead for this reason. Even so, Bleacher Report's Stephen Nelson and Bob Canobbio of CompuBox believe their upcoming clash promises to be more exciting than the earlier one could have been: Like Roach, Pacquiao is said to be ignoring rumours that Mayweather was felled. His publicist Fred Sternburg sent an email to the Philippines Star, reported by Dino Maragay: "Manny has no comment on the rumor nor does the team has any interest in Floyd's camp." Incidentally, the same publication linked to a video of Mayweather dominating one of his sparring partners: These types of stories—ones which signal one fighter has the edge in training—are likely to continue arriving as we head toward the date of the encounter. The reputation of both men resides on whether their hands will be held aloft at the battle's conclusion, so anecdotes and other alleged tidbits will dominate the build-up. Both Mayweather and Pacquiao are professional enough to not let this interrupt their schedules. Besides, even if one was to be knocked down in sparring, it's hardly a measure of where they're at. Once the lights descend and the bell rings on May 2, anything beforehand becomes inconsequential.
